Early help councillor training
This set of resources is designed to facilitate a training session for local councillors on understanding and improving their local early help system, delivered by council officers with responsibility for early help.
These resources support the early help resource pack, produced by EIF in partnership with the Local Government Association (LGA), which covers issues such as councillors’ role and the importance of evidence and evaluation in improving outcomes for local children and families.
The training session aims to increase councillors’ awareness of early help as an important approach to the delivery of support for local children and families; improve their ability to act as a ‘critical friend’ to their council on its early help offer; and establish a shared understanding of, and commitment to, the early help approach between councillors and council officers.
The resources include:
-
a template PowerPoint presentation, which council officers are able to adapt for local use
-
guidance for council officers delivering the presentation
-
a feedback form for councillors to complete at the end of the session.
